UCSC is the pioneer institution of computer science education in Sri Lanka. Given its role in computer science studies as well as providing the ICT services to many institutions affiliated with the university, UCSC decided to transform its ICT environment in to a cloud environment.
Partnering with VMware VSIS delivered the first ever VMware vCloud solution implemented at a government agency in Sri Lanka. This solution reduced the large number of physical servers which were converted in to virtual machines. Furthermore UCSC also reduced it’s network infrastructure using VMware’s Software Defined Network which converted some physical switches in to virtual devices.
With this transformation UCSC today maintains a simple ICT infrastructure which could deliver all the requirements through a simplified portal. This has reduced the need of managing multiple physical servers and has allowed the UCSC IT team in focusing on delivering value to the academics and student community.
